CONTENDER for the office of the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Professor Taoheed Adedoja, said the botched convention in Port- Harcourt, Rivers State, was a blessing in disguise contrary to fears being created in some quarters that it would deepen the crisis rocking the party. In a statement made available to journalists in Abuja, yesterday, the former minister of sports and special duties advised his supporters not to be disheartened over the cancellation of the exercise which he said would allow for further consultations on the final resolution of the crisis in the party. According to him, “the cancellation will allow opportunities to explore wider consultations by leaders of the party with a view to resolving outstanding key issues that may affect the future of our party, we should not entertain any fear at all, to me it is a blessing in disguise, it is a good omen”. Adedoja expressed early resolution of the crisis based on his interaction with stakeholders across the states and Abuja during his nationwide tours. “Nigerians still believe in the ability of our party to take the nation to greater heights”. “There is nobody who is above mistake in life, we made mistake as the ruling party and we lost power to the APC, they too are messing up, we are going back to see how we can reorganise ourselves as a party and go back to the electorate, plead with them so that we can have their mandate again, this is exactly what we are doing now, we will surely get it right once again”, he stated. Responding, leader of the delegation, Mallam Mustapha, expressed satisfaction with the tremendous goodwill and support enjoyed by Prof Adedoja particularly in the19 northern states in his aspiration of becoming the PDP national chairman. According to him, “our brother, Prof. Taoheed Adedoja, is regarded as one of us in the entire north. He is someone we trust and who relates very well because of his long association with our people. A man with integrity who has the fear of God, he will receive our votes anytime the PDP convention holds.”
