As Tottenham host Manchester City
Barclays Premier League top scorers, Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane, will face each other today when Tottenham host Manchester City in what promises to be scintillating encounter following the form of both teams.
Both players have had excellent seasons and it was a breakthrough campaign for Kane and same for Aguero.
Both top their respective club’s scoring charts by a fair margin.
One of the two prolific strikers will get his hands on the Golden Boot come the end of the season and that of course depends on how much each can add to their goal scoring record; although Aguero is currently leading Kane with only one goal advantage.
Kane has been in superb form for Tottenham this season despite starting the campaign as third-choice striker, netting 20 Premier League goals for the club while also scoring on his senior England debut.
It has been a memorable breakthrough year for Kane, who spent time on loan at Leyton Orient, Millwall, Norwich City and Leicester City before breaking into the Spurs first-team under boss Mauricio Pochettino.
The striker came through the White Hart Lane club’s youth ranks and he made his Premier League debut for Spurs during the 2012/13 season but it was not until this season that he broke into the first-team.
Aguero, on the other hand, is a familiar name on the Premier League scoring chart ever since arriving in Manchester from La Liga giants Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2011.
In his first season in England’s top-flight, Aguero scored 23 league goals including the memorable last-minute winner in City’s 3-2 victory over Queens Park Rangers on the last day of the 2011-12 season which secured their first ever Premier League title.
Although his progress has been hindered by injuries in the previous two seasons, Aguero has returned to his best this year and has notched 21 top-flight goals despite City’s disappointing performance in the league.
However, with the two Premier League rivals set to lock horns today it remains to be seen who will win the Golden Boot this season.
