RENOWNED veteran artist, Bruce Onobrakpeya, and eight others will hold a one-week art exhibition at Adam and Eve Departmental Store in Ikeja, Lagos State from June 18 to June 25, it was learnt. The others are: Kolade Oshinowo, Lekan Onabanjo, Raqib Bashorun, Duke Asidere, Alex Nwokolo, Zino Orara, Fidelis Odogwu and Tola Wewe. The artists would display not less than 36 artworks during the exhibition with the theme: “The Content”. Mrs Modupe Ogunlesi, the curator of the exhibition as well as the Managing Director, Adam and Eve, said that theme connotes, “buy from the store, take the content home. “It is a way of encouraging the
public to appreciate creativity,’’ Ogunlesi said, adding that the exhibitions would take place on Lagos Mainland. “People on the mainland are closer to that art beauty, so that they will appreciate it. “We equally want people from the Island to cross the bridge to see what is displayed on the mainland,’’ she said. She said that various artists would be allocated different sections of the store to display their artworks. “I don’t want the artworks clustered in one section of the store as it used to be in a gallery,’’ she said. She said everything about home and offices were being sold in the store except artworks. “Adam and Eve is about
functional art; you can see the beauty of house hold and office arts if you tour the store’s various departments. “If you have good interior decorators at home or offices but artworks are missing, it is not complete. It is an appreciation of beauty as well,’’ she said. NAN reports that Mrs Ogunlesi has been managing Adam and Eve Store for 16 years out of its 20 years of existence. She graduated as an accountant from University of Lagos, in 1975 and did her NYSC in 1976. She also studied at the London School of Accountancy to become an Associate of the Certified Chartered Institute of Accountancy (ACCA). (NAN)
