President Muhammadu Buhari has endorsed Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State as one who has met the standard expected of leaders in the country, considering his developmental activities in the state over the last four years.
Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, made the commendation on behalf of his boss and said he was asked by President Buhari to visit and commiserate with the government and people of the state over the Sallah eve bomb blast which claimed over 50 lives, spoke at the Palace of the Emir of Gombe.
He said, “I was just going round the city; I’ve been so amazed at the development here. I just thank him very much for the great work that he is doing.
“I think that that is the standard this country expects from those who lead and I want to jut thank the governor for the great work that he is doing,
“I want to thank the Governor for the great work that he is doing. Leading at this time in this country is not for children”.
He extolled the strength of character, courage and bravery with which the people of Gombe state responded to the attack and said it was exemplary.
“What I have seen going around is that yes; yes on a day of sallah when they should be rejoicing, the people are in mourning.
“But despite the fact that people are mourning, they are not afraid, they are not cowards, they do not feel that there is no hope.
“They are resolute and resilient. Even in the market, there are still people there. There are still people walking around. They are not afraid and they know only God can protect
“I’m so happy to see that the good people of Gombe state are not in any way coward or defeated by what they have seen or by that terrible experience. They are bold and brave and that is very good to see. I want to thank you”, he exclaimed.
Prof. Osinbajo who spoke on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari said his principal gave him the responsibility this morning to commiserate with the people, demonstrate oneness with them and share in their mourning.
In their remarks, Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo and the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III appreciated the president’s gesture, and said it was commendable and incomparable.
Alhaji Abubakar added that the visit was not a surprise because of President Buhari’s love for the people of the northeast Nigeria and prayed Allah to bring an end to the insecurity situation.
