The President-elect, retired Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, has sent a goodwill message to British Prime Minister, David Cameron, congratulating him on his victory in the just-concluded British elections.
This is contained in a statement released in Abuja on Saturday by Malam Garba Shehu, Director, Media and Publicity of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Organisation.
In the statement, Buhari said he looked forward to collaborating with the British government led by Cameron, after his swearing-in on May 29.
“Nigeria and the Great Britain have enjoyed good relationships, and we look forward to developing even stronger ties,’’ the statement quoted Buhari as saying.
It said that the President-elect also commended Cameron for the role that the British government played before, during and after the Nigerian elections.
“Britain, the U.S., EU, ECOWAS, AU and the UN have played vital roles in ensuring that democratic norms were adhered to during our elections.
“Their role in the smooth outcome of the just concluded Nigerian elections can never be over-emphasised,’’ the statement said.
It further that the Nigerian President-elect looked forward to furthering the “special, warm and friendly relationships’’ between the government and people of Nigeria and the UK under Cameron. (NAN)
