buhareiBarring any unforeseen circumstances, President Muhammadu Buhari is to officially inaugurate a new Federal Executive Council on Wednesday. The inauguration of President Buhari’s cabinet is coming after series of horse trading and buck-passing that trailed the screening and confirmation of some ministers-designate in the senate.
According to the official itinerary of the ceremony made available to State House Correspondents, the commencement of the inaugural session of the council will be preceded by administering of oaths of office in the Council Chambers of the State House by the ministers-designate.
The swearing-in ceremony will, according to Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, begin at 10:00 hours and the ministers-designate are expected to be seated in the Council Chambers by 09:30 hours at the latest.
“Each minister-designate can only be accompanied to the swearing-in ceremony by a maximum of two guests,” Adesina said. He was however silent on the issue of portfolio, which practice in the past was for the announcement of portfolio to follow immediately after the swearing in.
The President had stressed that not all the ministers- designate would be given portfolios.
Meanwhile, following the confirmation of their nominations by the Senate, President Buhari will today at the Presidential Villa, preside over the swearing-in of Prof. Mahmood Yakubu as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and five others as National Commissioners.
The swearing-in of Prof. Yakubu, Mrs. Amina Zakari, Mr. Solomon Adedeji Soyebi, Prof. Antonia Taiye Okoosi-Simbine, Dr. Muhammed Mustafa Lecky and Alhaji Baba Shettima Arfo is scheduled for 11:00 hours at the Council Chambers.
