President Muhammadu Buhari has commended the commitment and zeal of the leadership of the Nigerian Armed Forces to tackle security issues across the country, just as he lauded the successes of the armed forces in the counter- insurgency operations in the North-East.
He made the commendation at the official commissioning of the first mega filling station of the Nigerian Army Properties Limited in Minna, the Niger State capital on Friday, while assuring that his administration will continue to provide the needed support to the armed forces for efficient service delivery and effective discharge of their responsibilities.
The president, who was represented by the Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin, stated that the establishment of the project was quite commendable and legendary, adding that it was part of efforts to reposition the Nigerian Army to meet contemporary realities.
Accordingly, he said, “I am therefore particularly glad that this project which is being commissioned today is a step in the right direction. I congratulate the Nigerian Army for this giant stride which is in line with the policy direction of the present administration.”
He assured that this government will not relent in providing the much needed support to the armed forces for efficient service delivery and effective discharge of their responsibilities.
Also, in his remarks, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai, said the newly commissioned mega filling station is a pacesetter in the current drive to reposition the army for contemporary realities.
He explained that the project is in line with his vision of having a professionally responsive army in the discharge of its constitutional roles, adding that it has ventured into areas that would improve the welfare and well-being of personnel, their families and the civil populace.
He said the new filling station with four pumps for fuel, and one each for diesel and kerosene including a supermarket and a mechanic workshop would operate a 24-hour service daily and would soon be replicated in some parts of the country like Enugu, Ibadan, Kaduna, Lagos, Maiduguri, Port Harcourt and Abuja among others.
Buratai thanked President Buhari for his continuous support and for standing solidly behind the armed forces in combating insecurity in the North-East.
The chief of army staff disclosed that the armed forces has made appreciable progress in the fight against terror, while imploring all personnel to remain professionally responsive and loyal to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
