Nigerian Pilot Sports can authoritatively report today that the Sports ministry may not survive the downsizing of government ministries when the administration of president-elect, General Mohammadu Buhari takes off from May 29.
An impeccable source hinted our correspondent last weekend in Abuja that Buhari appears bent on keeping his cabinet small in size, thus he intends to ensure the sports sector is administered through the National Sports Commission, NSC.
“The NSC will still have the Director General as the administrative head. However, sports lovers should expect a board made up of experienced technocrats for the commission. That’s the thinking of the president-elect. Also, the office of the vice president will be made to directly supervise sports development in the country,’’ said our source who did not want his name in print.
In a recent interview, Buhari gave a major hint over the size of his cabinet. His words:
“I will make sure that it is not too big because if it is big, they will start thinking of how to influence the choice of ministers either for themselves or those they want to be ministers. But my idea is to get knowledgable and experienced technocrats who are really patriotic to study the handing over notes by ministries and make recommendations.
