President-General, South–South Chiefs and Elders Council, Abuja, Obong A.W. Udosen, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to fulfill his campaign promises, avoid sycophants and ensure a total overhaul of the Oil and Gas sector so as to make petroleum products, especially petrol and kerosene, available to Nigerians at affordable prices.
Obong A.W. Udosen stated this while reacting to the inaugural speech of President Buhari shortly after his inauguration as President in Abuja recently.
Udosen, while speaking with journalists described former President Goodluck as a man of peace and integrity, and commended the out-gone President for conceding defeat and handing over power to President Buhari peacefully.
He called on Nigerians to give their total support to the new administration of President Muhamadu Buhari and Mr. Udom Emmanuel, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State to succeed respectively.
He urged Buhari to ensure the fulfillment of all his campaign promises made to Nigerians, saying people voted for him based on the promises, his past records and being a disciplined man as well as a man of integrity.
According to him, President Buhari should try and avoid sycophants that would be pretending to be giving him good advice; rather he should carry everybody along both the youths and the traditional rulers irrespective of political parties, religion, ethnicity or ideology.
The President – General said if possible, Buhari could choose any member of his cabinet from any of the opposition parties that is capable, credible and willing to work in order to move the nation forward, stressing that the President should not be influenced by anybody in appointing is ministers and aides.
On the issue of corruption and insecurity in the country, the traditional ruler expressed his belief that Buhari would surely redeem Nigeria from the two critical issues currently confronting the nation, calling on the President to fight corruption and reduce it to the barest minimum, if not eradicated completely, irrespective of the individual or groups involved.
He described the step taken by Buhari to relocate the command and control centre from Abuja to Maiduguri to combat the Boko Haram insurgency as a right step in a good direction, explaining that Buhari is capable and has the ability to fight the insurgency to a standstill.
The President –General urged President Buhari to tackle issues in Oil and Gas sector, especially on fuel subsidy and electricity supply. While calling for the total removal of fuel subsidy, Udosen said the new administration should ensure the availability of fuel in the filling stations at affordable price.
Similarly, he said the new administration of President Buhari should do all it could to make sure that Nigerians enjoy uninterrupted power supply across the country, saying making electricity supply available to Nigerians at affordable price will go a long way in restoring the dignity of Nigerians.
