PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has formally written to members of the National Assembly informing them that he has resumed his functions as the President of the country. The letters were addressed to the Senate and the House of Representatives. It would be recalled that the President returned to the country on
Friday after spending about 49 days on an extended medical vacation in the United Kingdom, UK. At a brief ceremony at the presidential villa, Buhari indicated that he had been very sick, and that he might return to the UK for more medical checks “within some weeks”. A statement issued yesterday Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina explained that the presidential communication to the National Assembly was in compliance with Section 145 of the 1999 Constitution
(as amended). “I have resumed my functions as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with effect from Monday, March 13, 2017, after my vacation,” Adesina quoted his principal as writing in the letter. Meanwhile, Buhari has met
with his deputy, Prof Yemi Osinbajo inside the President’s office at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Osinbajo arrived for the meeting at about 12 noon shortly after the President arrived his office for the first time since his sojourn in London.
