PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari yesterday assured outgoing Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo state of a call to duties at higher quarters for his outstanding achievements since assumption of office, as Edo state governor. The President who is on a two- day working visit to Edo state said Oshiomhole’s historic achievements have placed him as a worthy ambassador of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC-led administration. He assured him that the leadership of the ruling APC would ensure that he gets a place that would enable him continue to play a very active and key role in the process of nation-building and development. The President gave this indication while speaking during a courtesy visit to the Omo N’Oba Nedo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II at the Oba’s palace in Benin, the state capital. He said Oshiomhole has served well and would not be allowed to go as the ruling APC would look for a place for him to serve the country further. Earilier, Oba Ewuare II in his welcome speech, lauded President Buhari for the efforts by his government in the drive towards reviving the country’s ailing economy and to improve the lives of the citizenry. The monarch said the President’s “efforts to reposition the country to a respectful status within the comity of nations are well appreciated,” even as he expressed the support of the traditional institution for the federal government. He added this was towards assisting the FG in restoring peace and stability in the troubled areas of the country and the government’s resolve to fight corruption with great zeal aimed at bringing confidence in the polity. “Mr. President, we support the efforts you are making to restore peace and stability in troubled areas of the country which according to him has made a pronouncement of our self-recovery and the resolve to fight corruption in our great nation.” The Oba also expressed appreciation for the various appointments made by the President Muhammadu Buahri’s administration which included worthy sons and daughters of Edo state into positions of authority. He then solicited for more federal government’s presence in the state even as he reiterated his earlier appeal to the government for more support in the dredging and transformation of the Gelegele Seaport into an import and export processing zone to boost the state’s agro-allied industry and her economy. The traditional ruler noted that the gesture would help create employment for the army of unemployed youths so that they can contribute positively to the socio-economic growth of the nation. Oba Ewuare II also thanked Mr. President for the support during his recent coronation as the 40th Oba of the ancient Benin Kingdom and prayed for the success of the President’s visit. He prayed for, “the consciousness of brotherhood of man and love of our creator to moderate our attitude towards each other in order to ensure peaceful environment for positive development in support of the federal government efforts at transforming the country.” The host Governor Oshiomhole who had described the President’s visit as remarkable said it was designed to showcase some of his key achievements after almost eight years in office The President later commissioned the reconstructed Accident and Emergency complex of the Central Hospital in Benin City, the Upper Siluko dual carriage road, the reconstructed Queen Ede Gully Erosion site on Ikpoba Hill area and the Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia College (formerly New Era college in Benin city The President is expected to leave the state for State House, Abuja, on Tuesday after commissioning some road projects in Edo Central and the public- private Edo University in Iyamho, the governor’s village in Edo North senatorial district of the state
