YOUTH wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria has attacked the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, for accusing Christians of spreading rumours about state of health of President Muhammadu Buhari. A statement signed by Engr. Daniel David Kadzai, president, CAN youth wing, read: “The attention of the youth wing of CAN has been drawn to the recent statement in the media attributed to the SGF, Mr. David Lawal Babachir, amidst other concerns, most especially heinous killings and growing insecurity in Nigeria under their watch. We wish to state categorically that the SGF, Mr. Babachir, has no ecclesiastical authority to speak for his church (ECWA) or the Christian community. Let him not be deceived by his position in government as equal to a spiritual leader speaking for the Christians. “Though the church or Christian leadership may out of grace not excommunicate the SGF, the entire Christian youths frown at and dissociate their selves from the misleading claims by the SGF that Christians are fuelling rumours about President Buharis’ health. The SGF does not need to play to the gallery in pleasing his mentors and political sponsors by denying his kit and kin of same faith. “We are aware of such that abound in this administration. Exodus 9:16, “But, indeed, for this reason I have allowed you to remain, in order to show you my power and in order to proclaim my name through all the earth.” Christians must not be taken for granted. “For the benefit of doubt, it might interest Mr. Babachir and his likes to know that all Christian leaders, churches, ministries and para-church organisations have been praying for
the health of Mr. President (Buhari) both in Sunday worship services, midweek fellowships and night vigil worships. We wonder what the SGF, Mr. Babachir, seeks to achieve by claiming that Christians are responsible for fuelling the rumours concerning Mr. President’s health. “Babachir as a Christian knows the Bible instruction to Christians, “…to pray for ALL those in position of authority.” Let us remind the SGF that ours is not a religion that imposes leadership or compulsive followership, and that “He that troubleth his house shall inherit winds” (Prov.11:29). “On the fight against corruption by this administration, we observed with dismay that the corruption war still appears to be one sided; either on those who have served in the last PDP administration or those who have fallen out with the APC-led government. The Christian youths and Nigerians are watching
those indicted and prosecuted on corruption charges and wondered if those leaders in APC or those who decamped to APC are sacred cows and untouchables. “With the recent sentencing of former Adamawa State governor, Ngillari, to five years imprisonment, Nigerians are beginning to wonder whose scripts are being perfected. Babachir can be seen as a pure energy of the church, a goat within the sheepfold of our Lord Jesus Christ, who can do anything to dent the image of the church. We equally want to still say that the church he claims he goes should excommunicate him and treat him as an alien. “We wish to put it on record that the diversionary and provocative antics of Junaid Mohammed and President Buharis’ kinsmen asking the whereabouts of the president cannot distract us from praying for the president and peace in Nigeria.

Babachir has chosen to incite his party men and followers against Christians across the country for his political gains. No wonder a moslem man came on FB to declare that in the event of Buhari’s death, Christians would be attacked. Let it be known to Babachir and his co-travelers that God will hold him/them responsible for any attack or death of any Christian in the ongoing Buhari’s health imbroglio.
