Police on Tuesday arraigned a 45‎-year-old businesswoman, Rabi Shado, and two other persons before an Igbosere Magistrate Court of Lagos, over alleged kidnap.
The other two persons arraigned alongside the businesswoman were a 43-year-old businessman, Edwin Ubba, and John Agba, 47, who is said to be a civil servant.
The three accused persons were arraigned before Magistrate Abimbola Komolafe on a three-count-charge bordering on conspiracy, unlawful confinement, kidnap and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Stephen Molo informed the court that the accused persons and others still at large had sometime in August 2008, at E4, Satellite Town, in Ijegun, Lagos, committed the alleged offences.
The offences, according to the prosecutor, are contrary to section 273‎ and punishable under section 273 (a) (b), 270 and 312 (2) of the criminal law of Lagos State 2011.
Inspector Molo narrated to the court that the three accused persons unlawfully confined and detained one Jude Odionu ‎against his will and also fraudulently obtained the sum of N300,000 from one Onyeka Odionu, under the pretence of treating Jude Odionu’s mental illness.
However, the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.
Consequently Magistrate Komolafe granted the defendants bail in the sum of N 200,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.
The magistrate added that the sureties must show to court evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State government, and have their addresses verified by the prosecutor.
The matter has been adjourned till November 17 for mention.
