Pensioners in Akwa Ibom State would from henceforth be required to produce their Bank Verification Numbers, BVN, before they receive their pension and gratuity, the state government has said.
The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Aniekan Umanah, who spoke with reporters yesterday in Uyo said this was part of the decisions taken at the State Executive Council meeting.
Umanah explained that the SEC in reaching the decision, took cognizance of the fact that the BVN registration exercise was due to end on October 30, 2015, hence the need to have all pensioners registered before the deadline, in order to avoid untoward consequences.
“All eligible pensioners are required to submit their BVN at their various sub-treasury offices, latest by 26th of October, to guarantee the payment of their entitlements.”
He also disclosed that the Ministry of Youth and Sports was directed by Council, to ensure that a good number of Corps members serving in Akwa Ibom are posted to schools across the State, for proper utilization and effective integration with the people.
In the same vein, the Commissioner said that “Council, in acknowledging the provision of computers to 43 schools across the state, directed the Ministry of Education to develop new strategies that would encourage reading and promote book culture among the people.
The meeting which served as a quarterly review of the administration, was part of efforts geared towards oiling the wheel of governance with every Ministry making presentation on achievements so far recorded, as well as targets set for the next quarter.
“Governor Udom Emmanuel also tasked Council members to engage in strategic thinking and creativity for optimal success in their assigned responsibilities.” Umana stated.
