Fresh Hope for Nigeria, FHN, a group that has identified with the course of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun has come down hard on the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Timi Frank for calling for the resignation of the national chairman over the recent National Assembly crisis.
Mr. Frank had called for the resignation Chief Oyegun, blaming him for the woes that befell the party in the struggle for National Assembly leadership. “‎The party’s national chairman caused it because times without number, some of the leaders told him to come up with a zoning formula from the beginning. He was asked to take a decision and let people follow that but he didn’t do that.
“They were playing hide and seek with the issue until the last minutes when they saw the danger, and they wanted to play hanky-panky, which led us to lose one position at the Senate. In the Western world, by today the party’s national chairman would have resigned honourably,” he said.
However, in a statement released yesterday in Abuja by the national coordinator of FHN, Comrade Tamuno Banigo, the group said Timi outrightly acted in error to have attacked the leadership of his party on the pages of newspapers and disowned him as a member of the party’s National Working Committee.
“He has even gone ahead to call himself a member of the National Working Committee, this is a lie, Timi Frank should not continue to confuse the members of the public. He is not known as a member of NWC.”
While reacting to some of the issues raised in the report, the group explained that the policy of the party is that they wanted to present one candidate for the National Assembly leadership election and to provide a platform to achieve that, explaining that, that was what has been guiding the party in all the primaries that have been organised on the basis of providing a level playing ground for all the members of the party.
According to Banigo, “Nobody is allowed to dictate for the party on how that should be done.”
Speaking on the mock election conducted before the inauguration of the 8th National Assembly, he said what the party did was to provide platform for all its members to freely choose their preferred candidates for all the positions.
“This is what the party feels it owes its members and we will continue to do that,” he reiterated.
