NASARAWA State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has denied claims in some quarters that it had constituted a caretaker committee for the youth wing of the association in the state.
State CAN secretary, Elder Yohana Samari who debunked the claims in a telephone interview with our correspondent yesterday, described a purported press release issued to some media houses by a group claiming that the association constituted caretaker committee for its youth wing as criminal.
He explained that election was held and supervised by the mother body last weekend in the various offices of the youth wing of the association where Patriot Appolos Dandaura was re-elected as chairman among other officials.
“In fact, election was ongoing when my attention was drawn to a radio announcement purported to have been signed by me that a caretaker committee was set up.
“It is very unfortunate that people who claim to be Christians could descend so low to forge my signature and go ahead to forge CAN letter-headed paper for the purpose of making false claims. This is criminal and we have already reported the matter to the law enforcement agencies for necessary action.”
Recall that the youth wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria, YOWICAN, in the state re-elected Appolos Dandaura as chairman with other officials.
Speaking shortly after the election, the state CAN chairman, Bishop Joseph Masin enjoined the new leadership to work towards the unity of the association by operating an all-inclusive administration devoid of sentiments for the interest of peace and development of the Christendom.
In a keenly contested election held at the United Methodist Church of Nigeria in Lafia, Dandaura emerged winner for the chairmanship position having polled 97 to defeat his opponent, Bro. Sunday Otaru, who scored two votes.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the election, Dandaura pledged to consolidate on his achievements, noting that the second mandate given to him by members of the association was an opportunity to correct some of the lapses that might have been observed during his first tenure.
