PRESIDENT, Christian Youths Of Nigeria,
Evang. Simon Timothy Naso has raised alarm
over about 200 calls he allegedly received
threatening his life pertaining to the forthcoming
Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN election.
According to Naso who spoke in Abuja
yesterday ahead of the forthcoming CAN
national election, the several threat calls he
received were not unconnected to his stand
on media advocacy against imposition of a
candidate to lead the Church in Nigeria.
“ I have received calls from some persons I
know and some I don’t know; but they call to
threaten me. On the 6th May 2016, I got a call
from someone at Lafia Almakura Street who
introduced himself as Olu Akanbi, while he
pretended to be interviewing me.
I saw five heavy men who surrounded me, as
God will help me, I signal my friends to come, as they were about apprehending me, I
jumped on the bike and ran away. To my
surprise they all got into a waiting vehicle
and started pursing us. We struggled and
by God’s grace we escaped from them.
He said the threat to his life has landed
him into hiding and therefore called on
the inspector general of police, and other
security agencies to save his soul by
tracking persons behind the dastardly act
with the view to bringing them to book.
“At the moment, I am in hiding and I
request that you use your good offices
to investigate the matter; remember the
recent case of kidnapped CAN leaders
in Kaduna. One of them was killed and
some were released. At the moment, I
cannot mention names of my suspects;
but I know it is most likely the handiwork
of some disgruntled persons who are not
comfortable with my recent statement on
the media “ he said.
