THE CRISIS between
the ruling party, PDP and
opposition, APGA in Abia
State has deepened over the
recent arrest of six INEC
staff in Umuahia for illegally
possessing seven card
reading machines without the
permission of the Resident
Electoral Commissioner, REC,
Prof. Selina Oko.
While APGA has insinuated
that PDP facilitated the scam,
PDP has advised APGA to be
truthful, honest, and desist
from fabricating lies that can
be injurious to the democratic
process.
Legal Committee of PDP
2015 Campaign Organisation
in a press briefing in Umuahia
blamed the incident on” predetermined
drama written
by APGA and performed by
security personnel at INEC”.
Leader of the team, Barr
Gabriel Igboko, wondered
why APGA should be linking
PDP with the INEC incident
and going to town with what
he describes as “falsehoods
and blackmail”, adding that,
“If any person wanted to gain
from any alteration will it be
PDP that has already won the
election?”
“We kept quiet all along
thinking that civility would
prevail. It is regrettable that
APGA has been spinning
falsehoods to whip up
sentiments and attract public
sympathy with the hope of
possibly swaying the tribunal
members”.
The Secretary of PDP in Abia
State, Barr Charles Eseonu,
who is also a member of the
legal team, in his contribution,
alleged that APGA actually
paid the security personnel
involved in the scam at INEC,
stressing that the incident
demonstrates an unbridled
desperation of APGA in the
state to grab power in Abia by
all means.
“It is a grand design by
the opposition to whip up
sentiment and sway the
tribunal members,” he said
