Home-based Super Eagles players preparing for this year’s African Nations Championship, CHAN will jet into Kigali, capital of Rwanda next Wednesday.
Nigeria is in group C alongside Tunisia, Guinea and Niger.
Super Eagles last two years managed to finish 3rd when they featured at competition hosted by South Africa.
Meanwhile, for the umpteenth time, domestic players that finally made 23-man team have collectively expressed their readiness to go all out and grab CHAN trophy.
Defensive midfielder Paul Onobi assured; No doubt we are ready, and we are working hard to start year 2016 on a good note for the country, and I believe with calibre of players we have in camp if we get to Rwanda, the sky will not even be our limit because some of us have the experience in the national team”
On his part, his teammate, Ikechukwu ibeneagbu asserted “I think for the past two weeks now we have been together in camp. The assessment is that the team is good to go. We have blended and we shall continue to jell well and by the time we get to Rwanda we are going to come back with the trophy by the Grace of God.
On the level of cooperation and team spirit in camp, Captain and Sharks FC Player Chima Akas added; there is nothing like pressure here. We just need to be ourselves, work very hard. We have been in camp for weeks. I don’t see any pressure. We all are determined to go to Rwanda and win the cup.
As at the time of filling this report, Nigerian Pilot Sports gathered that the trio of goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa, defender Austin Obaroakpo and midfielder Paul Onobi are in line to be appointed vice-captain of the home- based Super Eagles side.
Sharks defender, Chima Akas, formerly the vice-captain of the squad, will captain the team at the African Nations Championship after the former captain, Gbolahan Salami, dumped the team in favour of a move to Europe.
The team currently piloted by Sunday Oliseh are in Cape Town for a 10 –day pre-Championship training camp where they will play friendly games against fellow Rwanda –bound Angola and Cote d’Ivoire today and next week Monday respectively.
