Ahead of today’s showdown with Niger in the ongoing African Nations Championship,CHAN in Rwanda, Super Eagles head coach Sunday Oliseh has asked Nigerians to be patient and not take it for granted that the team are now clear favouites to win the title following their 4-I crushing of Niger in opening game on Monday.
Coach Oliseh, a former Super Eagles Captain and defender said that the mentality of Nigerians is that Eagles should be winning titles and Oliseh said that attitude stop.
“My team is a very young team and we want to take every game as it come. If God grants us this trophy then we shall be grateful.”
According to the Super Eafles handler, ‘’ Nigerians always want to win everything and this is a wrong mentality because that does not happen in football that you win all the time. I can’t start talking about the title after just game one. I don’t want to be obsessed with this notion that because we are Nigeria we should win everything. Other teams did not come to be fans.”
Speaking about the next group game against Tunisia today, Oliseh said he does not know who will make the first 11 because it all depends on several things at play. Tunisia who won the trophy in 2011 when it was held in Sudan drew with Guinea 2-2 in the first match.
Nigeria have been the highest scoring team after all games have played their first games. The Democratic Republic of Congo are the second highest scoring team after their 3-0 victory over Ethiopia in a Group B tie.
