The former Senior Special Assistant to the Millennium Development Goals, MDGs, Dr Precious Gbeneol has urged contractors with genuine claims in the office of the MDGs to channel their grievances to the agency and refrain from engaging on campaign of calumny against her in the media.
Allaying the fears of the contractors over debts owed them, the former presidential aide stated, “MDGs office recognises these outstanding liabilities (debts) incurred under my tenure as the SSAP which the agency, bound by law is obligated to pay.”
Gbeneol regretted that the agency could not pay all outstanding liabilities during her tenure because of shortfalls in funds released from the Accountant General’s office, adding that payments to contractors were made in proportion to funds released to the office and the projects executed.
“Regrettably, we acknowledged we could not pay all outstanding debts because of shortfalls in fund releases during my tenure. But within the limits of funds released, we were able to make payments proportionally to individuals’ contract sum.”
Gbeneol, who disclosed that between 2011 and 2015 when she worked in the Agency, over 5000 contracts were awarded which followed the extant civil service rules of due process, decried the constant media attack on her person since she left office.
