Ekiti State Government has called on the Department of State Services, DSS, to charge Hon Afolabi Akanni, to court and prosecute him if truly the DSS have facts and evidence against him.
At a press conference held at the executive chamber of the governor’s office in Ado-Ekiti yesterday by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Communications & New Media, Mr Lere Olayinka, with the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Idowu Adelusi, said the lawmaker as reported on Thursday, is terribly sick and need urgent medical attention.
“We however wish to ask how and when in particular did Hon Akanni commit those offences amounting to breach of security? Did Hon Akanni plot coup or is he leading insurgents to warrant his detention without trial.
“For the first time, in 15 days, the DSS admitted officially that it was holding a member of the State House of Assembly, representing Efon Constituency, Hon Afolabi Akanni and paraded him before the press to debunk the rumour that he was dead.
“Also, former Special Assistant to the governor on Internally General Revenue, Ropo Ogunjobi, is being kept in the DSS custody since March 4. Did he also commit “serious security breach” or he is just being held to extract information as to the finances of Ekiti State in furtherance to the mandate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, gladiators in the State, who are working on what they called the ‘2006 Template,’”? Lere queried.
He urged the DSS to obey court order given by the Federal High Court on March 16, that the DSS be served through newspaper publication already published in Thursday’s Tribune.
He noted that “is it part of the mandate of the DSS to dump Nigerians in detention for 15 days on mere allegations?”
