Chelsea are reportedly set to reignite their interest in Roma defender Antonio Rudiger, but face competition from Paris Saint-Germain for his signature.
The 23-year-old moved from Stuttgart to join the SerieA side last year, making 30 appearances for the club as he improved as the season went on to establish himself as a key part of the team.
However, he suffered knee ligament damage earlier in the summer which ruled him out of Euro 2016, and in turn he has been recovering since.
Although there will naturally be some concern over how he comes back following the serious setback, it hasn’t put off Antonio Conte with Sportmediaset reporting that the Italian tactician is keen on adding Rudiger to his squad at Stamford Bridge.
The report claims that both Chelsea and PSG are willing to splash out €30m to sign him, but it remains to be seen whether or not firstly Roma are interested in selling and if the player himself is ready to leave the StadioOlimpico.
Chelsea were active before the transfer deadline last month as they signed both Marcos Alonso and David Luiz to bolster their defensive options having been light in that department prior to their arrivals.
However, Conte is seemingly still not content with the work done to improve the squad, and will return to Rudiger in the upcoming transfer windows.
While the former Juventus boss has options for the short-term, at 23, Rudiger would undoubtedly been seen as a long-term piece to add to the puzzle and while he has impressed in his career to date, he has plenty of room for improvement and could welcome the chance for Conte to oversee his development.
