The Managing Director of Chevron Nigeria Limited, Mr. Neff Clay, has commended the chemistry students in Delta State, for their brilliant performance at the 2015 National Chemistry Competition held at Abuja, recently.
Clay, who gave the commendation yesterday at the 2015 Awokoya Memorial/ Competition award, held at the Petroleum Training Institute, Effurun, Delta State, said Chevron will continue to encourage the study of chemistry in the state and Nigeria.
He noted that Chevron’s unrelenting commitment and contributions to boosting and improving chemistry study has impacted positively in sustainable a quality and standard education in the country.
Earlier, the chairman of Delta State chapter of Chemical Society of Nigeria, CSN, Mr. Alexander Okoroji in his welcome address, commended Chevron for sponsoring the chemistry competition and also all chemistry teachers in the state.
He said there was an urgent need to reorient our approach to the teaching and learning of chemistry, as most secondary schools and universities are without laboratories even with having professors of chemistry.
“If Nigeria must make meaningful progress economically and in technology, we need to intensify the teaching, learning and study of chemistry as it holds the key to propel Nigeria into unlimited greatness as a nation.”
