CHIEF RAZAQ AKANNI OKOYA

Razaq Akanni OKoya is a self-made successful business tycoon and an Industrialist. He owns the ELeganzar Group of companies. Razaq Okoya is also the Aare of Lagos.

Razaq Okoya was born on 12 January 1940 to the family of Tiamiyu Ayinde Okoya. His father owned a tailoring business, the only formal education he had was at Ansar-un-deen Primary School, Oke popo, Lagos. While in school, he saw his teachers in worn and shabby clothes while on the other hand the business men of his street were well dressed and that was when he decides that for him to be successful he needs to pursue the business life and it worked for him.

He spent several years in his father’s tailoring business patiently and obediently observing how his father ran his business and then he took the bold step to venture into trading with the sum of £70, which part of it was gotten from his mother, though with his father’s Blessing.

As his business started expanding, he travelled far and wide and saw how different things were manufactured and that was when he felt that he could do better.

He noticed that women are obsessed with costly jewelries and their prices were outrageous and since the metals could be designed at a cheaper price and the metals were readily available in Nigeria, he ventured into the business.

He travelled abroad, bought the machines and that led to the success of Eleganza Jewelry.

Chief Okoya also started manufacturing buttons, as well as importation of shoes in large quantities.

Meanwhile, as a result of disappointment from his foreign business colleagues he decided to start manufacturing his own shoes. He then imported all the machines and brought in some experts who trained his workers.

Chief Razaq Okaya’s Eleganza Industries grew and now produces a wide range of household goods and utensils including cutlery, collieries, food warmers, ice chest, electric fan, cosmetics and ballpoint pen.

Okoya’s Eleganza Group is one of the biggest homegrown conglomerates in Nigeria today, with over six factories, and its products are household names not only in Nigeria but also neighboring African markets. He is also an employer of labour.
