There was a big drama at the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, South-South Region 11, Port Harcourt, yesterday, as aggrieved worshipers grounded service over alleged mismanagement of church fund and sack of the regional overseer of the church, Mr. Lanre Adekunle.
The protest, which set panic in the church, also brought every activity in the church to a halt, thus making it impossible for members to worship on the last Sunday of 2015.
The infuriated protesters, who carried placards with different inscriptions, barricaded the entrance to the church with cars demanding the immediate reinstatement of the sacked regional overseer.
A source in the church, who related the development to journalists, disclosed that there had been several cases of alleged mismanagement of funds in the church which the leaders had been unable to address.
The source further revealed that few people were diverting church fund into their personal pockets, also hinting that the cartel had always frustrated any true man of God posted to the church who would not allow such diversions.
One of the leaders of the protesters who is also an elder in the church, Mr. Chukwu Okorafor told newsmen that their anger was as a result of “the arranged sack of Pastor Lenre Adekunle was being witch-hunted by the cartel.”
He said the embattled clergyman, who was posted to the branch about two months ago, was innocent of the allegations levelled against him by the group, noting that the only remedy to calm the worshipers would be the immediate reinstatement of the sacked pastor.
“We are not happy that few individuals in the church would be sucking the church dry. They have converted what belongs to the church to their own personal fund.
“The peak of the problem is that the same group that has always frustrated the church by taking the fund wrote petition for the sack of a pastor that came to save the church from the wickedness of a few persons.
“We will continue this protest until the general overseer hears this and brings back our pastor who is doing the true work of God in our region,” he stated.
