Workers at the State Government Secretariat, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta trooped out in large numbers to take advantage of a ‘know your health’ programme put together by the State Government as part of events marking the 2015 Civil Service Day in the State.
At the programme held at the Arcade Ground, Governor’s office, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, the workers underwent free medical and diagnostic tests which included sugar level, glucose level, eye and dental tests as well counselling and testing for HIV/AIDS.
Addressing the workers during the programme, the Head of Service, Modupe Adekunle reminded them of the need to undertake regular medical check-ups to ascertain their health status in order to make informed decisions about their life styles.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Civil Service Commission, Mr. Sola Adeyemi, Adekunle emphasised that health is wealth and that only a healthy worker could be fit enough to discharge his duties as expected in line with the ‘mission to rebuild’ agenda of the State Government.
While enjoining the workers to be pro-active in taking care of their health, the Head of Service affirmed the readiness of the State Government to continually do the needful on their welfare.
Speaking later in an interview, two of the workers who benefitted from the gesture, Olanike Soyele of the Ministry of Housing and Mrs. Olamide Watson of the Bureau of Service Matters expressed satisfaction about the tests carried out on them as they said they often find it difficult to go to the hospital regularly.
The duo appreciated the State Government for the exercise and requested that such free medical tests should be arranged for them quarterly.
