The Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, will play host to the Chief Justices of four countries from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) namely: Bahamas, Barbados, Eastern Caribbean and Trinidad and Tobago on today 1 February 2016.
The Caribbean Community Chief Justices, who are on five days visit to the Nigerian Judiciary, arrived Nigeria yesterday, and will depart on 4 February 2016.
In a statement signed by the media aide to the CJN Mr. Ahuraka Yusuf Isah said that the visit which is the culmination of discussions between the said Countries’ Judiciaries and the Nigerian Judiciary is aimed at exploring the benefits the Caribbean Community and will derive from the adoption of the Nigerian Case Management Software (NCMS).
Mr. Ahuraka said that during their Lordships’ five day official visit, the Chief Justices are expected to pay a courtesy visit to President Muhammad Buhari, in the company of the CJN.
Besides, the delegation will witness the demonstration of this innovative software and equally sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Judicial Council in order to facilitate the licensing of the Software for use in their Jurisdictions.
It is expected that this visit will further bolster the relations existing between the Nigerian Judiciary and its commonwealth counterparts, which are marked by regular exchange of visits and hared values based upon the Rule of Law and an independent, incorruptible Judiciary.
Indeed, such cordial relations provide a strong platform for the development of synergies that will enhance our Judiciary and foster principles that are in line with global best practices in Justice Delivery and the administration of justice.
The visit, in all, offers an opportunity to examine the benefits to Nigeria and what the visiting counties stand to derive by replicating this software which was developed in conjunction with the National Centre for States Courts (NCSC) and Microsoft Inc., both from the United States of America. It is the first of its kind in the world.
