Nemesis has caught up with a cleric who allegedly specialises in stealing vehicles belonging to his clients while praying for them as he is now in the custody of Gombe State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.
Shem Obafaye, NSCDC Commandant in Gombe State revealed this while commenting on the Command’s recent efforts towards fighting crimes and criminality in the state.
He said the suspected cleric, Alaramma Kawuje was arrested at Madaki Quarters in Gombe metropolis where he teaches children.
He said the teachers usually seeks his clients permission to use motorcycle(s) for a while only to go duplicate the key and on subsequent appointment, he engages his client inside while his boys makes away with the motorcycle(s), using the forged key(s).
“And when the victim raises alarm, he will tell them to bring the papers of the machine so that he would use them to pray for the recovery of the vehicle(s), thereby laying his hands on the documents to enable him sell the motorcycle(s) without suspicion,” he added.
Obafaye said the Command also arrested a suspect who robs with a toy gun and charged him to a Magistrate court from where the case was moved to the High Court for trial.
He said Usman Haruna, the suspect had before his arrest during an operation in the state capital, disposed his victims of a cumulative sum of N450, 000.00 and other valuables.
He said Haruna was a welding fabrication apprentice at Jimeta in Yola who escaped to Gombe to avoid punishment for stealing his master’s N20,000.00.
He said suspect’s toy gun was hand-made from a gun-shaped stick wrapped with black rubber strap which he points at his victims from behind and dispossesses them of their belongings.
The NSCDC Boss said they also apprehended one-legged Usman Abubakar over criminal conspiracy and theft, as he attempted to steal a motorcycle in the state capital, but that his accomplice is still at large.
In the same vein, one Bello Yahaya of British Cotton Ginery Area, BCGA, is facing charges for stealing 25 bags of dry pepper worth N120, 000.00 belonging to his tenant.
He said the suspect normally access the good stored in one of the shops in his house, using the backdoor.
The pepper owner discovered his trademark on some bags at pepper market, followed it up and his landlord was the supposed owner of the commodity.
