Zonal Superintendent of the Christ Apostolic Church, CAC, Orisun-Ife, Pastor Olumide Makinwa has urged the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari not to allow any political office holder travel abroad for medical treatment during his tenure.
Pastor Makinwa who made the declaration at the official commissioning of the late Lady Evangelist Felicia Abiodun Makinwa Maternity Centre on Sunday in Ibadan further said that “the health sector today in Nigeria is in sorry state because political office holders that are supposed to champion provision of good health for Nigerians had neglected their responsibility.
“It was easier for them to do so because they have access to medical treatment abroad. And before you know it, majority of the political office holders are going on treatment abroad at the expense of tax payers’ money.”
Pastor Makinwa who noted that their family had decided to renovate and equip the Lady Evangelist Felicia Makinwa Maternity Centre with modern equipment to take care of the health of the people living in Adeoyo area, particularly pregnant women and children in remembrance of the 20 years of her demise, further said, “I have been opportune to travel abroad and visited some of their big hospitals; majority of the consultants up there are Nigerians. It was our attitude to our health sector, particularly the political office holders that drove them away from the country.”
“We have a lot of resources in this country that are always carted away by the people in the corridors of power in billions. What our president -elect needed to do is to make sure he blocks all these loop-holes and channel the money to build good hospital, renovate the existing ones, provide drugs and pay our health workers adequately.”
Pastor Makinwa noted that the family only provided the Maternity centre in the name of their mother who died 20 years ago as part of their contributions to the development of the health sector in Nigeria.
