Chief Medical Director, Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido Ekiti, Ekiti State, Dr. Majekodunmi Ayodele has called on the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joshua Ibine, to arrest youths who participated in violent protest at the hospital.
Dr. Ayodele also appealed to the security agencies to extend their operations for the arrest of those who kidnapped a nurse working with the hospital, Mrs Margaret Aladenika.
Mrs. Aladeneka was last week Sunday abducted and his husband beaten by unknown gunmen while driving along Ido-Ipere-Iludun road, which also saw the killing of a yet-to-be identified person.
According to the CMD, just as the hospital was yet to recover from the shock of the kidnapped nurse, some youths under the banner of ‘Ido Youth Vanguard’ last Wednesday invaded the hospital in protest and disrupted activities for a whole day while venting their anger on youths from the host community not being given preference in employment in the hospital.
Also, the former Chief Medical Director of Ekiti State Teaching Hospital, Dr Patrick Adegun and his wife, Kikelomo, and an industrialist in Epe Ekiti known as Jimi were kidnapped at different locations within the State.
Dr. Ayodele noted that the invasion on an institution that offers special services to the populace indicated the extent to which people could take laws into their hands just to satisfy selfish desire.
“I expect the police to have made arrest by now, because the identities of the youths were known. How can anybody attack a hospital that offers treatments to all manners of patients?
“Some of our patients are hypertensive and needed very peaceful environment to be able to respond swiftly to treatment. What the youths did was uncalled for and a flagrant breach of the public peace and they need to be made to account for their unruly behaviour.”
