Deputy National Chairman, DNC, South-West, National Conscience Party, NCP, Comrade Waheed Lawal has commended the religious organisations that have been assisting the striking workers who have not received salaries in the last seven months in Osun State with food items and money.
He made the commendation in his Osogbo office while answering questions exclusively from Nigerian Pilot Saturday.
Comrade Lawal, who called on the state government to look for a means of paying the salaries of workers in the state civil service in the spirit of June 12 recently celebrated, said the timely decision of some religious organisations in the state towards making the workers happy cannot be over emphasised.
Comrade Lawal, who is also the State Coordinator, Osun Civil Societies Coalition, OCSC, which is an umbrella body of pressure groups in the state, expressed its sympathy for the workers despondent condition over the nonpayment of their six-month salaries.
According to Lawal, “hunger and poor health ravaging the state workers were undeniable as a result of the nonpayment of their salaries as well as pensioners.
“I urged Governor Rauf Aregbesola to aggressively find solution to the unpaid salaries and pension arrears, and I want to add that all his developmental projects and
innovative programmes in the state would not be appreciated when the workers are being owed salaries for six-month which is unacceptable, “ he added.
