No fewer than 25 coalition groups of the All Progressives Congress, APC, youth associations from the South-South geo-political zone have urged youths in the country to rally round the APC-led federal government to bring about desired changes and warned against isolating themselves from the ideals of the new administration.
The groups believed failure to associate with the change mantra of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration would have adverse effect on governance, as most political office holders are likely to relapse into the old ways and thus prolong the woes which Nigerians want to do away with.
National publicity secretary of the APC youth groups, Sam Oburu, who read the communiqué that contains the warning shortly after its meeting, said it was important to give cogent support to Buhari’s government to ensure that the mistakes of the PDP government were not repeated.
The groups said since Nigerian youths had voted in the present administration with the mandate to eliminate corruption, reduce unemployment and end insecurity, they must stand firm with the government to bring about these changes.
Oburu, who urged the youths to mobilise support for Buhari and other APC leaders in the task of reinstating the nation’s lost glory, noted that the gross underdevelopment and corruption experienced by Nigerians were what largely angered them to vote out the PDP-led government, adding that the youth could not rest on their oars but must provide support for Buhari to succeed.
“The youth especially those from the South-South geo-political region have not been comfortable with the prevailing deficit in the nations body polity because of the ineptitude of the previous government stressing that the time has come for Nigerians especially the youth to entrench good governance,” he said.
He subsequently warned against negative moves capable of truncating the government of President Buhari.
“To majority of Nigerians, the past government has failed and so any move to distract the APC government will be inviting poverty, bad policies, insecurity, infrastructural decay and destruction of the nation’s economy,” Oburu declared.
