The Zonal Coordinating Commandant, Nigerian Legion Corps of Commissionaires, NLCOC, South East Zone, Lt. Col. Ejikeme Lekwuwa, has urged the Federal Government to install sensitive security apparatus in churches and mosques across the country to forestal criminal acts.
The Commandant, who specifically said investment in modern security gadgets would reduce incidences of insurgence and armed robbery in the country, made the appeal yesterday in Enugu during the official decoration ceremony of Batch A officers of the Enugu State Command of the legion. He said CCTV Cameras, scanners, among others, if installed in sensitive places would check the activities of insurgents and other criminal elements in the society.
Col. Lekwuwa said that for adequate security to be ensured for the churches, worshippers should be discouraged from entering worship centres with hand bags, briefcases and similar items which some insurgents use to conceal bombs. “Worshippers must always be security conscious and should desist from clustering or loitering around the worship centres after service.”
Lekwuwa described the corps members as ambassadors of the kingdom who are trained and sent out to serve the Nigerian public but not to sent to go and oppress and extort the public and reminded them that in carrying out their duty, on no account should they give offence to anybody.”Now that the Nigerian government has chosen us to go and serve, we must give no offence to no one,” the Commandant points out.
Eleven officers of the Command were decorated with different ranks at the occasion; one Lt. Col, five majors; three captains and two lieutenants.
The decorated officers include the Enugu State Commandant, Lt. Col. Sogo Ojewoye; Major Amechi Ogbu, Deputy Commandant; Capt. Aniagboso Kelechi; Maj. Vincent Ani; Capt. Sam Ogbu; Maj. Richard Okonkwo; Capt. Chukwuma Aburu; Maj. Francis Ede; Maj. Osinaike Sheso; Lt Okwudili Enebechi and Lt Austin Okoye.
Highlight of the occasion was the unveiling of the official service or patrol van donated to the corps by Batch A corps members to facilitate the activities of the organisation in the state.
