Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has dismissed reports that a commissioner who accompanied him to Guangzhou in China for the First Nigeria-China Governors’ Investment Forum was caught stealing. The governor was accompanied to the forum by two commissioners, Professor Dennis Ityavyar of Education, Science and Technology and Dr. Tersoo Kpelai of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, one of which was reported to have itchy fingers. Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Terver Akase, was also on the entourage. Responding through Akase, the governor said the report “is a figment of the reporter’s imagination and should accordingly be dismissed. “We wish to urge Benue people to disregard the falsehood being peddled on social media by members of the opposition that a Benue commissioner has been arrested in China. “Nothing of the sort happened in Guangzhou where the First Nigeria-China Governors’ Investment Forum is currently taking place or in any other part of China. “It is unfortunate that instead of focusing on constructive and purposeful ways of engaging the present administration, the opposition party in Benue State has resorted to blatant lies and cheap blackmail.”
