27 persons have been confirmed killed in two communities of Barkin Ladi Council area of Plateau State, just as another 20 were persons shot dead in a popular market in Kyado, Ukum local government area of Benue State.
This is despite the recent restriction of movement at night in seven Council areas of Plateau State.
It could be recalled that Barkin Ladi and Riyom local government in Plateau North Senatorial zone have been allegedly said to be killing fields by people suspected to be Fulani herdsmen and their collaborators over the last 8 years.
Chairman of the Council, Mr. Emmanuel Loman, while confirming the incident in Plateau State, yesterday, disclosed that Fulani herdsmen without provocation attacked Ninji Village and shot seven people in the community to death.
According to him, the night marauders were not satisfied yet, as they stormed Ropp, a nearby village and killed more 20 persons.
“As I speak to you now (yesterday), I am at the mass burial of 27 people massacred by the Fulani and their mercenaries” said the Chairman.
Loman pointed out that the killings were perpetrated by Fulanis who lived in the communities and aided by their mercenaries.
The LG boss added that the attackers wanted to make Barkin Ladi LGA another Sambisa Forest at all cost, saying they will come out and launch attacks at will on innocent people and go back to their hiding places.
He therefore called on security operatives to be proactive as the situation is getting out of hand.
In the Benue killings, an eye witness told Nigerian Pilot that unknown gunmen stormed the market which is located close to Wurukari in Taraba State at about 1pm in a gangsteric fashion and opened fire randomly, killing 20 persons while several others who were injured were said to be in critical condition.
The dastardly act, which was said to have caused many people in the area to flee into hiding, also left several others asking for the motive of the perpetrators.
When Nigerian Pilot contacted the Police Public Relations’ Officer, PPRO, ASP Austin Amaechi on phone, he confirmed the incident, but said only three persons were killed while five others sustained serious injuries.
Ezeani said investigation has already commenced on the incident.
It would be recalled that suspected Fulani herdsmen, last week Friday attacked a Benue community in Shengev district of Gwer West Local Government Area (LGA), killing eight persons and displacing hundred others.
