United Nations Industrial Development Organization, UNIDO conference held in the Azerbaijani capital, Baku, on Resource efficient and cleaner production, RECP was meant for better enterprises, cleaner Environment and green economy.
RECP applies preventive environmental management practices and total productivity methods to improve productive use of materials, energy and water and reduce the generation of waste, effluents and emissions.
Eight enterprises shared their experiences in applying RECP during the conference, and eight national experts received the UNIDO RECP Award.
“The RECP assessment revealed that our meat processing factory can save more than 7,000 EUR annually by improving the way we use our refrigerated warehouse and daily reusing up to 40,000 liters of cooling water for cleaning purposes,” said Azada Rzayeva, Quality Manager at M&T Ltd.
Other companies’ assessments also revealed good potential for improving resource productivity and environmental performance.

“UNIDO will further support the implementation of RECP in the participating enterprises, provide training courses and demonstrate best practices,” said René Van Berkel, Chief of UNIDO’s Industrial Resource Efficiency Unit.
He added that UNIDO also plans to work with selected municipalities in creating RECP clubs that will support small businesses in adopting RECP.
The conference was organized with the financial support from the European Union’s Partnership for Environment and Growth, EaP Green which supports the governments of Azerbaijan and other countries of EU’s Eastern Partnership, including Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, in greening their economies.
