North-Western Zonal Manager, Habib Engineering and Construction Company Ltd, Mr. Muhammad Siajan, has urged the Zamfara State Government to establish a road maintenance agency for the sustainability of roads being constructed across the 14 local government areas.
Siajan made the call while fielding questions from journalists in Gusau, yesterday.
He said the call had become necessary considering the fact that the state had spent billions of naira on roads construction.
He said when the agency is established, it would help the state government to maintain such roads, adding that it will curb high spending on road repairs.
The manager expressed dissatisfaction with how benefiting communities in the state, particularly in Gusau, the state capital, contribute towards the destruction of roads by dumping refuse inside drainages.
“You see, if the road was constructed based on the contract specification, it will take many years before it develops problems unless if the benefiting community spoils it.”
He said community leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, as well as government at all levels in Zamfara State must ensure attitudinal and cultural change among the public.
He also lauded the state government for regarding his company as one of the best construction companies and pledged to support the state government in transforming the state both socially, economically and technically.
