Succour has come the way of the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, camp at the Samson Siasia stadium in Yenagoa as drugs and mosquitoes treated net worth a million naira was donated to them by a Youth Corp members serving in the state.
Dr. Iniabasi Bassey, a Youth Corper with the Operation Delta Safe Head Quarters, Igbogene said, her visit to the camp early this year was to see what she can do to assist the women and children suffering in the camp.
While addressing the beneficiaries, Dr. Bassey said, she was moved with compassion when she visited the place early this year and saw the sorry situation of the camp, and took it upon herself as part of her primary assignment to the state as a serving Corp members to put a smile on their faces.
“When I visited the camp early this year, it was a horrible situation and I took it upon myself to render the little assistance I can to alleviate the suffering of the people medically because health is wealth.”
“It is my way of giving back to the society, I understand they are from Basambiri in Nembe, and their health condition is terrible, especially the children, I have major concern for them. I decided to come through provision of these drugs to the clinic. If they are sick they will go there,” she said.
She therefore advised them to make judicious use of the drugs and the treated mosquitoes net, explaining that, they should not fail to go for medical help where necessary.
Accepting the items from Dr. Iniabasi, Chief Noel Meshack, who is the chairman of the internally displaced persons in Bayelsa, thanked Dr. Iniabasi for her kind gesture and promised to make good use of the items donated to them.
He also used the opportunity to call on other donor agencies to come to their aides as Government alone cannot do it.
Present at the mini ceremony is Director of Sports Mr. Ayerite Norwell Judgenut representing the Commissioner for Sports, Mr. Ogbete Dasime, NYSC Local Government Inspector Yenagoa, officials of the Operation Delta Safe amongst others.
