Misconduct: NJC sacks 2 judges

Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, has ordered all the Judges handling corruption cases against former governors who were arraigned in 2007 to as a matter of urgency deliver verdicts on the matter before the end of this judicial year.
A highly placed judicial source at the weekend told Nigerian Pilot that the CJN has already communicated the Chief Judge of FCT High Court, Chief Judge of Federal High Court, Justice Ibrahim Auta and the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, over the need to pass judgement on the matter that has lingered since 2007.
According to the source, the judges handling the corruption cases will give special attention on the cases by hearing them on a daily basis.
The embattled former governors of Abia, Plateau and Jigawa states, Orji Uzor Kalu, Joshua Chibi Dariye and Saminu Turaki, respectively, were dragged before a Federal High Court in Abuja for allegedly diverting over N40billion public funds into their private businesses and pockets while they held public office.
Also, former governor of Taraba State, Rev Jolly Nyame was docked before Justice Banjoko of Federal Capital Territory High Court over of money laundering, corruption and theft in 2007. They served as executive governors of their respective states for eight years each.
Their alleged accomplices, some of them, presently at large, were also charged to court.
All of them are facing a total 192-count charge.
Meanwhile, a highly placed source at the Economic and financial Crimes Commission, EFCC told Nigerian Pilot that the legal department of the commission is currently working on court processes to vacate the order of a federal high court in Port Harcourt that restrained the EFCC, ICPC, Police and‎ other security agencies from investigating or prosecuting former governor of Rivers State, Dr. Peter Odili.
Odili was the governor of Rivers State between 1999 and 2007.
According to the source, the commission will be approaching a Court of Appeal, Owerri division with its defence in other to vacate the perpetual injunction that was granted by a federal high court.
He said that the embattled former governor of Rivers state (Odili) has a case over alleged fraud to the tune of over N100billion to answer.
‎Apart from the corruption cases against the former governors that were docked in 2007, other governors were later arraigned over alleged fraud in some state and federal high courts.
They include, Senator Danjuma Goje, Federal High Court, Gombe; Senator Abdullahi Adamu, Federal High Court, Lafia, Alhaji Aliyu Akwe Doma, Federal High Court, Lafia, Rasheed Ladoja, Oyo State High Court and Otumba Alao Akala, Oyo State High Court.
Others include, Otumba Gbenga Daniel, Ogun State High Court, former governor of Plateau State, Chief Botmang (late), Federal High Court, Abuja and former governor of Delta State, Chief James Ibori before a Federal High Court, Asaba on 128 count charge but was discharged and freed by the court before his eventual arrest and prosecution before a London court in the United kingdom.
He is expected to be out of jail in October this year after successful completion of his jail term.
