A Federal High Court, Abuja yesterday dismissed a fundamental human rights enforcement suit filed by an alleged mastermind of the ‎April 14, 2014 bomb blast in Nyanya, Aminu Ogwuche and the award of N600million as damages against the federal government and the Department of Security Service, DSS.
Ogwuche had filed a suit demanding the court for an order releasing him from the custody of the Department of State Service.
He also asked the court to award N600million as damages in his favour for being kept in detention since his arrest in July 2014 without arraignment before the court.
Justice Adeniyi Ademola in his ruling held that the suit lacked merit as the applicant’s detention by the DSS since July 15, 2014 in order to complete its investigations was followed and backed by court directives.
The Judge held that the orders made by the various courts allowing Ogwuche’s detention for successive periods were in line with the powers the court could exercise under section 27 of Terrorism Prevention Act, 2013 as amended.
