A high court sitting in Abakaliki, Ebonyi state capital has dissolved a six year old marriage between Professor Charles Ifeanyi Umeh, and his wife, Chinelo.
Professor Umeh who is a Chemical Engineer and lecturer at Atlantic University, Georgia, USA had filed a suit seeking the nod of the court to let go his wife, a banker working in one of the new generation banks in Ebonyi State.
The couple wedded on 11th December, 2009 in Enugu and the marriage is blessed with a boy child named Jerome.
Umeh told the court that his wife, Chinelo keeps company of many friends that made him uncomfortable and effort to stop her was in vain and he had been having constant quarrel with her over the matter.
He said even families and relatives had constantly waded into the matter to no avail.
He said his wife’s unruly behaviour had caused him mental and health breakdown and wanted the marriage dissolved immediately.
In a judgment delivered by the state Chief Judge, Justice Alloy Nwankwo, the court said the marriage had broken down to the irretrievable point and accordingly dissolved it.
Justice Nwankwo ruled that Prof. Umeh will be paying his ex-wife N300,000 annually as house rent for Jerome Umeh, the only child produced by the dissolved marriage.
He also ordered that Umeh will be paying N50, 000 to Chinelo monthly for upkeep of their son Jerome and that the amount should be different from his school fees he should also be paying.
He further ruled that the petitioner shall be responsible for the medical bill of Jerome any time he is with him in USA but if he is with the mother, the woman shall take care of such bill.
