A Grade 1 Area Court, Karmo, Life Camp, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced a 23-year-old unemployed man, Shamsu Shu’aibu, to one month imprisonment for buying stolen goods.
The Area court judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to a charge of receiving stolen goods.
Sadiq, however, gave the convict an option to pay N10, 000 as fine, and warned him to desist from committing further crimes.
Prosecutor Zannah Dalhatu had told the court that Sadiq Nura, who was arrested for criminal trespass and theft, confessed he sold some things to the defendant.
Dalhatu said Nura confessed that he and his accomplices’ stole an airconditioner and a size 5 cooking pot in Wuse Zone 3 during an interrogation at the Utako Police Station on Aug. 29.
“He also confessed that they sold the airconditioner and pot to Shu’aibu.
“This led to the arrest of the defendant, who admitted to buying the items despite knowing they were stolen,’’ Dalhatu said.
The offence contravened Section 317 of the Penal Code.
