An Enugu North Magistrate Court has remanded Chief Security Officer, CSO, Madonna University, Enugu Campus, Ogbonna Okey and Rev. Fr. Isaac Jinga, Dean of Students Affairs in prison custody till Tuesday, 21st July for felony and conspiracy to kill two students under their care.
The CSO and the Catholic Priest were arraigned on Tuesday 14th July, 2015 by Enugu Police command on two counts with charge MEN/87c/2015, which reads:
“That you, Rev. Fr. Isaac Jinga ‘M’, Ogbonna Okey ‘M’ and others at large on 3/2/2015 at Madonna University, Akpugo Campus, Nkanu West Magisterial District holden at Enugu did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit: causing grievous bodily harm and thereby committed an offence, punishable under Sec. 495(a) of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol. II, Laws of Enugu state, 2004.
“That you, Rev. Fr. Isaac Jinga, Ogbonna Okey and others at large on the same date and place, in the aforementioned magisterial district, did with intent to maim, disfigure or disable, cause grievous bodily harm to one Stanley Ifeanyi Okeye, by hitting him with iron rod at his neck and all over the body which caused injury him in spinal cord and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 288(a) of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol. II of the laws of Enugu state 2004”
When the charges were read to the understanding of the accused persons, they pleaded not guilty.
Presiding Magistrate Nkemjika Anibueze asked the counsel to the accused persons and the prosecutor to address the court on whether the court 1st, is competent and 2nd, whether the court has powers to look at the charge.
After both the accused counsel and the prosecutor addressed the court on that, Magistrate Anibueze ordered that the accused persons be remanded in prison custody and adjourned till 21st July, 2015 for ruling on whether it has the power to look into the charge.
