An Ebute-metta Chief Magistrate’s Court, has ordered that a 27-year old man, Fatai Afobaje, who allegedly killed his friend by chopping off his body parts, be remanded in prisons custody.
Afobaje, a resident of 332, Oko Agbonla Irese Village, in Magbo, was charged before the court presided over by Magistrate M. O. Komolafe on a two-count charge of conspiracy to wit murder and murder.
The prosecutor, Mrs. Elizabeth Ekuma, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, informed the court that the offences allegedly committed on 13 February, at about 1.00am at 332, at his residence.
ASP Ekuma further alleged that Afobaje killed his close friend, one Rafiu Sulaimon 44, who had gone to pay him a visit at his residence, after hypnotized him, and cut off the head and hand of his friend with a knife.
“The accused had gone to visit his friend and on getting there, the security allegedly used a charm on him rendering him unconscious.
“He was then carried in where Afobaje had cut off his head and hand before he buried the other parts,” she told the court.
Ekuma further said that when the premises of the accused was searched, they found chopped off body parts of the deceased buried in a shallow grave in his compound. And that the wife of the deceased was able to identify her husband, when she saw his wedding ring on a chopped off finger which was found in a calabash in Afobaje’s home.
Consequently, the presiding magistrate, Mr. Komolafe ordered the remand of the accused at the Ikoyi Prisons pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP, while adjourned the matter till June 22 for advice from the DPP.
