Justice Atinuke Ipaye of an Ikeja High Court of Lagos state, on Wednesday, sentenced a middle aged man, Friday James, to death by hanging.
The convict was convicted and sentenced to death by the judge, after he was found guilty of the two count charges of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and robbery leveled against him by the prosecution team led by Chief State Prosecutor, Akin George.
The convict was said to have committed the offence, ‘on February 17, 2012 around 3am at Ewegbemi Street, Meiran, Ajasa Command within Ikeja.
During the trial of the convict, prosecution had told the court that the convict robbed one Olanrewaju of her jewelleries worth N100,000. And also inflicted injuries on the head and hand of the husband of the victim through the use of matchetes and guns.
The offence, according to the prosecution is contrary to Section 297 Criminal law of Lagos State 2011, and Section 295 subsection 2(a).
The court found the convict gulty on the two charge and sentenced him to death by hanging.
It is recalled that the same court on February 17, 2016 sentenced two young men, Omoilodan Seun and Gbenga Kayode to death by hanging for attempted robbery and armed robbery.
The court found them
guilty of the offence of conspiracy, armed robbery and attempted armed robbery brought against them by the state.
The convicts were said to have committed the offence at Ayangburen Road, Ikorodu on November 2 and 9, 2011.
According to the prosecution, the
offence is contrary to Section 295
subsection (2)(b) of the Criminal
law of Lagos State.
