New Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP, Hyelasinda Musa Kimo, has stated that the command under his leadership will build on the gains made by his predecessor to combat crime and criminality in the state.
CP Kimo, stated this during his maiden Press Briefing in Port Harcourt, yesterday, at the Police Officers Mess, Forces Avenue.
The police boss, who described his posting to the state as a second missionary journey, as he once served as 2i/c Mopol 19 between 1993 to 1996, said his mission in the state is to ensure that the vision of the Nigerian Police Force, is upheld and implemented.
In doing this, according to CP Kimo, the command would adopt six strategies viz; Community Policing, visibility policing, intelligence led policing, war against cultism and violent crimes and massive deployment.
“My mission in this state is to ensure that the ultimate vision of the Nigerian Police Force is upheld and implemented. The Nigerian Police Force’s vision is to make Nigeria safer and more secure environment for everyone living in Nigeria.
“To achieve this, we shall adopt pungent measures to confront the nauseating monster – crime and criminality. Having observed that unscrupulous criminal elements known as cultists, kidnappers and armed robbers are constantly on the prowl in this milieu, we shall draw centrifugal forces together and rout them out. In fact, it is our resolve to declare such criminal elements as Personae non Grata.
“ The visible presence of the Police is to serve as deterrent to criminals on one hand and provide security assurance to good people of the state on the other hand. I am however, not unaware that this could be used as an opportunity for very few unrepentant bag eggs in the Police to extort, hence I have empowered the Command’s X-Squad to monitor and checkmate the activities of such policemen ad well as road users who may be moved in corrupt practices,” he said.
