Two persons are feared dead as a result of a violent clash between two rival cult groups in Ubima, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Ubima, hometown of two former Governors of the state, Sir Celestine Omehia and Rt Honourable Chibuike Amaechi, is a small town previously known for peace.
Nigerian Pilot gathered that residents of the community are fleeing their homes to avoid being caught in the crossfire between the two warring cult groups.
The chairman of Ikwerre Local Government, Bestman Amadi confirming the incident to journalists that security operatives had been drafted to the town to restore peace and order.
“The second detachment of security operatives are right now been drafted to Ubima community to quell the violent confrontation. The first detachment of armed security personnel was drafted yesterday night.
“We are about returning to Ubima with the second enforcement of security operatives to make sure the rival cultists are effectively subdued and disarmed.
“We need peace in Ubima and Rivers State. There is nothing to gain, if we continue to kill ourselves the way these young men are doing now. Our youths are busy engaging themselves in unproductive skirmishes, rather than to come together, and join hands in developing the community.”
However, as at press time the Rivers State Police Command was yet to respond formally to the incident.
