Clash between two cult groups yesterday in Ovwian community, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State, has led to the death of one person and several properties destroyed.
The victim, a middle-aged man, was identified as Mr. Erhuvwun Kebe.
However, cause of the clash was not ascertained as at press time, but residents in the community said the cultists stormed the Ovwian town hall, which also serves as office of the community vigilante outfit, and burnt three cars, vandalised all the windows, doors, chairs and carted away some valuable electronics belonging to the community.
President of the community, Engr. Paul Odiete, when contacted, condemned the acts, adding that as a result of the destruction of the town hall and the burning of the three cars, they mobilised youths of the community against the cultists.
He said, “When we got the information, we quickly mobilised our boys and apprehended 13 boys in connection with the incident and handed them over to the police at Ovwian Police Station.”
When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer, Celestina Kalu said she had not been briefed about the incident; but a police source at the Ovwian/Aladja Police Station confirmed the incident, saying that the police were hunting for other suspects in connection with the incident.
