Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Federal Operations Unit, FOU, Zone ‘C’, Owerri has seized a total of 1,777 cartons of fake and sub standard drugs imported by some unscrupulous businessmen.
The drugs, Super Mebendazole and Levamisole Hydrochloride were found to be without NAFDAC registration, manufacturing batch numbers and expiration date.
Also impounded were 182 used vehicles and 780 bales of second hand clothing with all impounded items worth Duty Paid Value, DPV, of Two hundred and fifty million, six hundred and seventy-six thousand and three hundred naira, N250, 676,300.00.
The Customs Area Controller of the FOU Zone ‘C’, Comptroller Dimka Victor David disclosed this while showcasing the latest seizures recorded by the zone at the Customs Government Warehouses in Owerri and Benin.
He said that the truck conveying the super mebendazole tablets was impounded on the Benin/Edo expressway consequent upon a tip off by some patriotic individuals.
Dimka pointed out that the drug barons on sighting his men at a close range quickly abandoned the exhibits and fled into a nearby bush but the driver of the truck was arrested and is currently assisting his men in the investigation.
